Pick Your Heel

Cowboy (riding) heelTaller and angled under the bootRiding. It catches the stirrup and keeps your foot from sliding through.

Pick Your Toe

  • Round toe: the traditional shape, easy in the stirrup.
  • Square toe (broad square): the most popular everyday toe, with the most room for your toes.
  • Snip and narrow square toes: a sharper, dressier look.

Pick Your Leather

  • Cowhide: tough, takes a shine, and the everyday choice.
  • Ostrich: soft, breaks in fast, and full quill shows the raised quill pattern. See our ostrich boots.
  • Roughout: suede side out, so scuffs from ranch work do not show.
  • Caiman, bison, python and elephant: exotics for the boot you wear to town. Exotics come and go with what the factories make.

How Cowboy Boots Should Fit

  • Snug across the instep (the top of your foot). With no laces, that is what holds the boot on.
  • A little heel slip, about a quarter inch, is normal in new boots. It eases as the sole breaks in.
  • The ball of your foot should sit at the widest part of the boot, with room to wiggle your toes.

Men's Cowboy Boot FAQ

Should new cowboy boots feel tight?

Snug, not painful. Leather gives a little across the width as it breaks in, but it will not get longer, so do not buy a boot that is short on your toes.

What is the difference between a cowboy heel and a walking heel?

A cowboy heel is taller and angled for the stirrup. A walking heel is lower and flatter for long days on your feet. If you ride, get the cowboy heel. If you mostly walk, get the walking heel.

Do you carry exotic cowboy boots?

Yes. We keep ostrich in stock and carry caiman, bison, python and elephant styles when the factories have them, including store-exclusive styles.

Can I try boots on in store?

Yes. Our Elk City store at 3000 W 3rd St is open Monday through Friday 8 to 6 and Saturday 10 to 5. Bring the socks you plan to wear.
