Lineman questions

What hands and ops ask first.

If you don't see your question, call us — we'd rather answer it on the phone than make you fill out a form.

What's the difference between HRC 2 and HRC 4?
HRC (now CAT) levels under NFPA 70E describe the arc rating in cal/cm² that the layered FR system has to withstand: CAT 2 is 8 cal/cm² minimum, CAT 3 is 25 cal/cm², CAT 4 is 40 cal/cm². Day-to-day distribution work is usually CAT 2; transmission and substation work is often CAT 3 or 4. We can match your hazard analysis to a layered system that hits the right rating.
Do you carry boots that pass dielectric / EH?
Yes — every work boot in our lineman selection carries ASTM F2413 EH (electrical hazard) protection. We also stock pull-on lineman boots from Justin Original, Red Wing, and Thorogood, plus Danner Vicious for hike-out terrain. Composite toe is a popular ask for hands working around metal detection at substations.
Can you do storm-shift outerwear at HRC 4?
Yes. We carry HRC 4 hooded parkas, insulated bibs, and arc-rated rainwear from Carhartt FR, Bulwark, and Lapco. For ice-storm and overnight outage work, we recommend a layered system rated to your hazard analysis — call us with the operator's PPE matrix and we'll spec it.
Can you ship to a service center, depot, or storm staging?
Yes — home, ops yard, depot, or storm staging area. Most orders go out the same day if placed before 2 PM Central. For storm-restoration emergencies we've shipped within hours; call us if you're caught short and we'll move heaven and earth.
Do you do local-IBEW patches and embroidery?
Yes, all in-house. Send us your local number and any artwork; we sew patches and embroider direct-to-garment without breaking the FR certification (we use rated thread and proper backing). Most embroidery turns in 2-5 business days.
