FR Work Shirts for Oilfield, Electrical and Plant Work
An FR shirt is the piece of PPE you wear the longest, so it has to fit, breathe and hold up to the wash. We stock men's FR button-up work shirts, pearl snaps, henleys, FR tees, hoodies and flannels from Ariat FR, Carhartt FR, Wrangler FR and Bulwark, and we fit crews for them every day in Elk City, Oklahoma.
How to Pick an FR Shirt
- Rating first. Oilfield and gas plant work usually calls for NFPA 2112. Electrical work calls for an arc-rated shirt under NFPA 70E, most often CAT 2 (8 cal/cm² minimum). The label lists both.
- Weight and fabric. Lighter FR fabrics wear cooler in an Oklahoma summer. Heavier twill and flannel hold up better to abrasion and cold.
- Style. Button-up work shirts with chest pockets are the standard on most sites. Pearl snaps, henleys and tees work where your job allows them.
- Fit. Get sleeves that cover your wrists when you reach overhead and a tail long enough to stay tucked.
FR Shirts by Brand
- Ariat FR shirts: work shirts, pearl snaps and tees, including lightweight vented styles for summer

Do Not Layer Synthetics Under FR
A polyester or nylon t-shirt under an FR shirt can melt to your skin in a flash fire. Wear cotton, wool or an FR base layer underneath, and FR outerwear over it when it is cold.
FR Shirt FAQ
What is the difference between NFPA 2112 and NFPA 70E shirts?
NFPA 2112 covers protection from flash fire, which is the main hazard in oil and gas. NFPA 70E covers arc flash in electrical work and uses arc ratings in cal/cm². Many FR shirts carry both, so one shirt can cover both hazards.
How long does an FR shirt last?
Wear it until the fabric is torn, worn thin, or soaked with oil or grease that will not wash out. Contaminated or damaged FR should be replaced, because it no longer protects the way it is rated to.
Can I wash FR shirts at home?
Yes, following the care label. Skip chlorine bleach, fabric softener and starch.
Can my company set up FR shirts for the whole crew?
Yes. We run company FR programs with approved shirts, logo embroidery and per-employee allowances. See our employee allocation programs.
