How Crews Layer for Winter

• FR or cotton base layer, then your FR work shirt, then the FR hoodie.
• Going over a heavy shirt? Go up one size, not more. Loose fabric hangs up on equipment.
• Below freezing, add an FR jacket, insulated vest or bibs.
• Cover your neck with FR, not a cotton scarf that can catch on moving parts.

FR Hoodie FAQ

Can I wear a regular hoodie over FR clothing?

No. A non-FR outer layer can catch fire and keep burning over your FR, and polyester blends can melt. Anything worn on top of FR needs to be FR. See FR vs AR clothing.

Are hoodies allowed on every job site?

No. Some sites ban hoods because they block side vision or snag. If yours does, an FR quarter-zip or crew sweatshirt gives the warmth without the hood. Check your site's PPE rules.

What rating do I need?

Match the rating your job requires, usually CAT 2 (8 cal/cm² minimum). Our FR rating guide explains it.
